CIMC Enric Supports Colombia’s Energy Transition with Full-Chain LNG Solution as “Pargo Rojo” Prepares to Sail

Over RMB 700 Million Order Covers LNG Tank Container Carrier, ISO Tank Containers and Regasification Plant

CIMC Enric has reached a key milestone in Colombia’s Regasificadora del Pacífico (RDP) LNG import project, for which it provides core equipment and system integration. The project’s logistics hub, the LNG tank container carrier Pargo Rojo, has completed sea trials. It is scheduled to depart Chizhou, China, by September 18 and arrive at Buenaventura, Colombia, in late October. This marks the imminent full connection of the offshore reception – tank container transfer – onshore regasification full-chain solution tailor-made by CIMC Enric for Colombia, helping the country achieve large-scale LNG imports along its Pacific coast for the first time.

Full-Industry-Chain Solution 

CIMC Enric won an integrated order worth more than RMB 700 million for the RDP project, covering general contracting of the regasification station, the LNG ISO tank container carrier and more than 300 LNG ISO tank containers. Together, these form an end-to-end solution spanning offshore floating storage, containerized transport, onshore regasification and pipeline injection.

· LNG tank container carrier Pargo Rojo: The 129.8-meter Pargo Rojo (IMO 1179781) was built at CIMC Enric’s Chizhou Tianyu Shipyard and classed by Bureau Veritas. Equipped with manifold system, it can load LNG from the floating storage unit (FSU) directly into ISO tank containers at -160°C.

· LNG ISO tank containers: The project is equipped with more than 300 high-quality LNG ISO tank containers, enabling LNG to be delivered spot-to-spot—from the FSU at the Port of Buenaventura directly to inland regasification stations, with no secondary transfer along the entire route. This effectively avoids dependence on pipeline networks in complex terrain and achieves a seamless connection from offshore reception to terminal delivery.

· Regasification plant: CIMC Enric is also the general contractor for the plant, which has Phase I capacity of 60 MMSCFD, expandable to 120 MMSCFD, and will connect directly to Colomba’s national gas grid.

The project is expected to deliver four main benefits:

· Energy security: It will create Colombia’s first natural gas import channel on the Pacific coast and the country’s second LNG gateway, providing diversified supply for the southwest and the nation.

· Climate resilience: During droughts, flexible tank container deployment can support thermal power peak shaving and protect electricity supply.

· Regional growth: It will boost infrastructure, logistics and jobs in Buenaventura and Valle del Cauca, supporting the Pacific economic corridor.

· Logistics innovation: It introduces Colombia’s first tank-container-based LNG supply chain, offering a modular, replicable model for smaller-scale imports with lower investment and greater flexibility.

With this combination, the project has opened up a complete pathway from offshore floating storage and containerized transport to terminal injection, providing a practical energy supply solution for Colombia’s Pacific region, which is mountainous and has limited port conditions.
